Bible teacher Kathie Magness loves reaching women through the depth of God’s Word.
Kathie grew up in Chicago and attended Valparaiso University to obtain her B.S. in Nutrition. She then moved to New Orleans where she worked as a Registered Dietitian at two hospitals before moving into Sales and Marketing for a food service distribution company. With this job, she was able to combine her knowledge of nutrition and with a desire to teach sales
personnel the idiosyncrasies of health care dietary needs. While there, she also obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She then made her way to Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and ultimately Houston where she served various food service distributors with her final job in this line of work at Sysco Corporation where she was the Director of Health Care Sales.
Midlife, Kathie decided to go back to graduate school and obtained a M.S. in Organizational Development from Pepperdine University. After graduation and a brief time of having her own business, she ultimately joined the Organizational Effectiveness team at Royal Dutch Shell. In this job, she consulted with leaders around the world and in her last assignment, led
a team of global consultants in various refineries and chemical plants. She retired from Shell in 2014.
She supported her psychotherapist husband, Milton (founder and now retired from Hope and Freedom Counseling Services) by co-designing his three day intensive workshops directed at couples whose marriages were on the brink of divorce.
In retirement, Kathie enjoys gardening, playing bridge, volunteering, leading her neighborhood Book Club, and staying physically fit. She also loves to travel and parent her petite Goldendoodle, Sadie. For the past 20 years, she has been a Bible Study teacher at various Houston churches and has mentored many young women. She has the spiritual gifts of teaching, hospitality and encouragement and has a passion for the homeless and other
underserved people groups. With her husband, Milton, she is the Co-founder of H&F Ministries and is pleased to serve the Lord in this capacity.
During Covid, she launched Be Brave: Bibles Studies for Women, at the request of women who have sat under her teaching and wanted to resume Bible Study during the pandemic. She now teaches two 6 week series each year at West University Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.
She and her husband, Milton, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They reside in Houston, Texas and Canmore, Alberta.
